What made you interested in enrolling
this school? -- For as many years as there has been a place called 'school',
parents have been seeking ways to fashion the best educational experience for
their children - the place that would provide students with the best possible
education and send them forth fully prepared to meet life's challenges.
Everyone wants top-quality schools. However, fee rises and changing attitudes
towards university have transformed students into more critical consumers of
higher education. People understandably want to maximize their employability
and this raises further questions about what to look for when choosing a
university. But what, exactly, does a 'good school' look like? What makes the
difference between success and failure?
Capitol
University, a nonsectarian, coeducational private university located in Cagayan
de Oro City, is considered as one of the best universities in the region
of Cagayan de Oro City. Capitol University was
formerly Cagayan Capitol
College and was established in 1971. The said university
also was duly registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a stock
corporation and operates with the authority of the Department of Education for
its primary and secondary programs and the Commission on Higher Education for
its tertiary, graduate and postgraduate programs. Forty-seven years after its
founding, Capitol University has proved its capability in serving Filipino for
its high quality academic standards.
High
expectations for student achievement are observed throughout the school. The
surroundings of the school give a message to all that enter that academic
achievement is valued in this place. During an interview, I asked several
students in different levels and colleges about their reason on what made them
interested in enrolling Capitol University. Throughout a whole day of gathering
information, I was able to made conclusion that could summarize all their
opinions.
Most students
answered that learning is promoted as the most important reason in Capitol
University. High standards for class work are carefully set with students to
provide effective learning. “Though medyo
challenging ang mga classwork given by our teachers, related man pod sya sa course
ug isa pa permi man me gina-guide samong teachers. Lisod sya pero makaya ra”,
said Cendi Nacalaban, a third year education student in Capitol University. Several senior high school students from
different department, also provided their opinions about the school’s
reliability of giving homework. “Every homework that is assigned to us is
usually to reinforce a concept taught or to give additional practice. Homework
is always checked reviewed and feedback is given.”
In keeping with
the high expectations of each teacher and each class, Capitol University provides
award for outstanding work are presented at assemblies and community meetings,
this is done to advertise and maintain the goals established for a high
achieving student body. “We are very thankful that Capitol University gives importance
for giving recognition to staffs and students, who were doing a job well done
inside the campus. In this way, it would made them gain more interest in
developing their well-being as a total person in the society”, said Ms.
Kathleen Sabud, senior high school teacher.
Students’
interest should not be neglected in terms of promoting the Excellency of the
school. Learning requires time and a conductive atmosphere. Since learning is as
much a social activity as it is an individual activity, much of what students
learn comes from interacting with each other people. Capitol University has
produced several top notchers in the licensure examination that surpassed the
national percentage of passing and ranked first throughout Region X. Capitol
University provides the needs and students’ interest in developing a social and
academic climate that gives students a strong feeling of belonging; students
feel proud of their school, feel they belong, and feel they are wanted and
nurtured by the school.
